Educational Services Committee
The mission of the Educational Services Committee is to foster the professional growth of OSSTF members in order to enhance the quality of education in Ontario, by providing direction, knowledge, skills and resources. The chair of the Educational Services Committee is Kathy Wildfong of Strathroy District Collegiate Institute.
Educational Services Committee Mandate
- 7.5.1Composition
- 7.5.1.1up to one representative from each Workplace.
- 7.5.2 Terms of Reference - The Educational Services Committee shall:
- 7.5.2.1 identify the professional and educational issues and concerns of members and make recommendations to the District Executive Council for action,
- 7.5.2.2 promote, encourage and support education related research and effective models of professional development at District levels,
- 7.5.2.3 provide equality of access to professional growth,
- 7.5.2.3.1 Administer individual P.D. funding assistance for members of District 11 under disbursement rules established yearly by the committee. (AGM 2003)
- 7.5.2.4 Organize and promote professional activities throughout the year.(AGM 2003)
- 7.5.2.5 Promote and seek funding for our District members at Provincially sponsored P.D. events. (AGM 2003)
- 7.5.2.6 provide materials in the areas of research, professional development, curriculum and issues of educational concern,
- 7.5.2.7 recommend to the District Executive Council, candidate(s) for the position of Committee Chairperson for the following year, prior to the June District Executive Council meeting,
- 7.5.2.8 carry out any other projects assigned or approved by the District Executive Council.
EdServices Funding
Professional Development Funding Information
Members of District 11 may request funds from the Educational Services Committee to pursue professional, curricular and educational issues and to support the goals of Professional Development in the District.
Please note the following:
- The maximum funding is $125.00 per individual for one P.D. activity this year.
- The ESC reserves the right to distribute PD funds equitably among District 11 workplaces. Please note that when more than two members of the same Branch or Bargaining Unit apply for funding for the same conference, no more than a maximum of $250.00 for that conference may be considered for that branch or bargaining unit.
- Applications should be received prior to the activity.
- Applicants must first try to access PD funds through their own school/department/workplace and must clearly indicate whether or not they have been able to secure funds from their school/department/workplace on the application form.
- Eligible Items: registration, accommodation, transportation costs (with receipts) for one round trip from home to event location, course/workshop related materials, meals (maximum allowed $10 each for breakfast, lunch; $25 for dinner/day).
- Items not funded: class coverage, courses that may result in system or salary advancement, or other expenses deemed ineligible by the Ed Services Committee.
- Funding approval is contingent upon the applicant's request for school/department funding.
- Members are required to submit conference receipts to the District Office by twenty-one (21) calendar days following the PD event. Thereafter funds may be reallocated to other members' PD.
Please complete the REQUEST FOR FUNDING OF INDIVIDUAL P.D. ACTIVITIES form (also available from Workplace Ed Services Reps or Branch Presidents or Bargaining Unit Presidents or the District Office) and forward the fully completed form together with the appropriate signatures and supporting documentation as requested on the form to the Educational Services Committee c/o Nancy McDougall OSSTF District 11. You will receive confirmation of the Committee’s decision within 10 days after the next scheduled Educational Services Committee monthly meeting. You will be required to submit original receipts for all claimed expenses unless other arrangements are agreed to in advance.
